The Power of Mindfulness
Mindfulness is a type of meditation that plays close attention to being aware of your current sensations and feelings without judgment or interpretation. These can be depicted as going on your walks and utilizing your senses; smelling the air, feeling the temperature of the air, the mild wind hitting your skin on your face and neck, etc.
When was the last time you had a moment of mindfulness?
How To Practice Mindfulness
If you're person that doesn't take at least 5-10 minutes out of your day for mindfulness moments and don't know where to start, here are some tips:
- Find or create a space where you can focus your attention towards your breathing and where you can feel at ease. I usually do this in my room but best recommended places would be on a patio and/or in nature such as your nearby park.
- Use guided apps to help you on how to get better at the practice. It's been a huge help to have guidance at my own convenience using Headspace. The reason being is that if there is no guidance, you most likely won't have a proper foundation to start having these moments. Build the foundation and this will lead to more reason on why you have these mindfulness moments.
- Practice these mindfulness moments throughout the day. Although you take 5-10 minutes out of your day, it's those crucial moments when you're quick to your emotions versus being rational/logical. It's helped me think more clearly and having less impulsive thoughts & feelings over time.
The Benefits of Mindfulness
You're now wondering what good can this do for you? Well after my first month of consistent practice (30 days straight), I had moments where I wasn't incredibly eager to get into my feelings when I didn't need to. For example, moments of anger would pass when typically I would blow up, I'd feel more present with talking with clients and having conversations with anyone that I meet, and I'd catch myself pause in moments of stillness even when I have a whole schedule ahead of me.
And me doing this allows me to put my best foot forward. This can lead to better relationships, whether it's business-related or personal relationships.
Importantly, I was finding myself smiling more and having a less uptight feeling within my face and my body language. That was something that I didn't truly expect.
Lastly, best of all, energy isn't being wasted. YOUR ENERGY. That shit is valuable and you need to protect that.
How will you protect it?
Well it all comes back to finding your mindfulness moments.
